The past year has brought a myriad of challenges, reshaping both personal lives and business operations. Adaptability has become crucial in this environment of constant change; strategies and methods that were effective just a few months ago may now be obsolete. This is especially evident in our work practices. The sudden shift to a work-from-home model became a necessity for most businesses.

As we gear up for a gradual return to the office, a pivotal question arises: Will we revert to the traditional, in-office work routine, or will we apply the insights gained during this period to establish a more integrated and flexible approach to work?

Employee surveys conducted during the pandemic indicated a general preference for the flexibility and improved balance between work and personal life when working from home. This preference hinges on having a conducive workspace and the necessary digital tools for their roles. Yet, many employees also expressed missing the direct social interactions, the spontaneous collaborations with colleagues, impromptu conversations, and the palpable sense of company culture that a physical office space offers.

The Emergence of the Blended Work Model

The future points towards a more permanent shift to remote working, as the pandemic has highlighted the importance of a nimble and adaptable organizational structure for maintaining business continuity. However, a complete transition to remote work is unlikely for most companies. Instead, a more common choice will be a blended work model, combining the flexibility of remote work with the advantages of physical office presence.

This hybrid model prioritizes employee safety and wellbeing for those working remotely, while also retaining the benefits of in-office interactions for networking, brainstorming, and meetings.

A Human-Centric Approach to Frictionless Working

The concept of frictionless working centers around ease of communication, collaboration, and knowledge exchange. It makes work more engaging and effective. By facilitating personal interactions through a mix of online and on-site experiences, this model not only enhances team collaboration but also fosters creativity and innovation — key elements for a thriving and sustainable business.
